Meets Sunday's  (starting September 14th) from 4:00 - 6:00 PM

For those of you unfamiliar with this ministry and its “strange” name, get ready!  AWANA is challenging, Bible-centered, and children (as well as parents) love it.  The name itself is an acronym which stands for “Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed,” a reference to 2 Timothy 2:15.  From a quiet beginning little more than 50 years ago, the AWANA ministry now serves more than 16,000 churches in 110 countries on six continents across 90 denominations!  The program is targeted at children all the way from ages 2-18.  It also offers resources for parenting, discipleship, evangelism, and specialized volunteer training.

AWANA is a varied program with lots of different activities and options – from Bible quizzing, to games and relays, to even a “pinewood derby” type competition where children build and race their own cars.  In many ways, this is like a year-round “Vacation Bible School” filled with energy, fellowship and spiritual growth.

What happens at AWANA?  Here are two paragraphs from the ministry’s web site:

“Your Awana meeting will be a time filled with energy, fellowship and spiritual growth. Each of our children’s clubs has its own unique meeting format, but in general Awana meetings are 90 minutes to two hours long and feature three main segments: Game Time, Handbook Time and Council Time.

Game Time is comprised of exciting circle games exclusive to Awana that are a popular draw for churched and unchurched children alike. Council Time is a large-group setting consisting of praise and worship, Bible teaching, awards, announcements and presentation of the gospel.  Handbook Time provides small-group interaction, recitation of Scripture that kids learned during the week, friendship building and opportunities for leaders to mentor children and help them understand the Bible verses they memorize.”
